When we recognize the true nature of mind, we see not only\nits empty essence<\/em><\/strong>, but also its quality of wakefulness, of lucid\nawareness<\/em><\/strong> that is fully and vividly present<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That awareness is the naturally abiding wisdom and\ncompassion of the enlightened state<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is primordially present within the nature of mind<\/em>.\nIt was not created in the past by a divine being or act; it is beginningless\nand endless, beyond concept and philosophy. It is the nature of our mind and\nof the universe<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whatever state of mind we have, whatever thoughts or\nemotions we experience, all of these are in the nature of this wisdom. The\nwhole experience of the samsaric world is simply the expression, or play, of\nthis all-pervasive and uninterrupted wisdom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fundamentally, there is nothing to fear; there is nothing\nthat is not in the state of liberation. All forms, sounds, thoughts and\nemotions are appearance-emptiness, like the moon\u2019s reflection on water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this utterly pure space, there is a sense of joy,\nfreshness and total freedom, which naturally radiates outward. We accept and\nappreciate who we are and whatever arises in our experience<\/em>. We are not\nbound by grasping at or rejecting appearances<\/em>. Therefore, there is a\nstate of genuine peace, of cessation of struggle<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bardo of meditation refers to the meditative state of\nour mind. It begins whenever we are resting our mind in the present, the state\nof nowness, in a clear, aware and undistracted manner. It ends whenever we are\ndistracted from that state. Therefore, the length of time we spend in this\nbardo is very individual; it depends on how long we are able to remain focused\nand relaxed, aware and at rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
